Addis Ababa, October 31, 2026 (ENA) — The recognition of Addis Ababa with the 2026 Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities marks a historic milestone for Ethiopia and reflects the capital’s ongoing progress in sustainable urban transformation, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Office stated that the recognition of Addis Ababa marks a historic milestone for Ethiopia and reflects the capital’s ongoing progress in sustainable urban transformation.

In a statement released today, the Office highlighted that this global award underscores the city's continuous modernization, inclusive urban planning, and infrastructure development.

Describing the accolade as a proud achievement for the nation, the Office emphasized that this milestone serves as a foundation and inspiration for future urban growth across all Ethiopian cities.
