A specialized school outreach program designed to enable the new generation to properly comprehend the historical Victory of Adwa, the unity of its peoples, and the shared historical narrative will be launched soon, the Adwa Victory Memorial announced.
The Victory of Adwa stands as a landmark historical event where Ethiopians unitarily repelled an invasion threatening their independence and honor, lighting a torch of triumph by declaring that Black people would not bow down to European colonial aggression.
The victory further cast a beam of freedom for all Black people who were under oppression at the time, inspiring them to strive and fight for their liberation.
Extensive works are currently underway to pass down this monumental victory to future generations, supported by thorough study and research.
Adwa Victory Memorial Study and Research Director Mekuanent Tilahun stated that efforts are in motion to transform the memorial into a dynamic platform where Ethiopians and Africans gather to engage in constructive discourse.
He noted that the current generation must contribute its share toward building a great Ethiopia by understanding history, learning from forefathers, preserving national unity, and honoring identity.
The monthly public discussion forums serve as an educational venue for history and a foundation for cultivating a shared narrative that solidifies Ethiopian unity, he added.
He emphasized that the forum assists Ethiopians in drawing lessons from their ancestors to consolidate their sovereignty and unity.
Announcing that a program titled "Adwa Forum" will take place in February, he highlighted that preparations have been finalized to launch a School Outreach program, recognizing that only a limited number of people can attend in person.
Preliminary activities enabling the imminent launch of the school outreach program, which teaches about Adwa, Ethiopian culture, and unity, have been completed.
To this end, work has commenced to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Addis Ababa City Administration Education Bureau.
The program encompasses schools ranging from pre-primary to secondary levels, serving to educate the generation on Adwa, Ethiopian culture, identity, unity, and shared national narratives.
Initiatives enabling similar discussion-oriented activities in higher education institutions are likewise currently underway.
