Prime Minister Abiy in Moscow to Attend Third Russia–Africa Summit

Addis Ababa, October 28, 2026 (ENA)— Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has arrived in Moscow, Russia, to attend the Third Russia–Africa Summit.

Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Abiy was received by senior Russian government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.

The visit comes as leaders and high-level delegations from across Africa gather in Moscow for the summit, aimed at advancing multilateral partnerships, economic cooperation, and strategic dialogue between Russia and African nations.

Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Russia span more than a century, rooted in historic solidarity, cultural links, and continued diplomatic coordination.

In recent years, bilateral cooperation between Addis Ababa and Moscow has expanded across key sectors, with bilateral trade turnover increasing substantially.

The two nations also continue to explore joint initiatives in civil nuclear energy technology and capacity building, alongside intensified coordination across global governance platforms following Ethiopia’s official accession as a full member of BRICS on January 1, 2024.

The Russia–Africa Summit serves as an institutional platform for high-level political, economic, and strategic engagement between Russia and African countries.

Launched in Sochi in October 2019, the inaugural summit established a structured mechanism for regular high-level dialogue.

This framework was further advanced during the Second Summit in St. Petersburg in July 2023, which focused on energy security, food supplies, and industrial cooperation.

The Third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow brings together heads of state, government ministers, and representatives of international organizations, alongside the Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, to strengthen economic partnerships, expand trade, and advance long-term cooperation frameworks.
