The airline celebrated the launch of the new service, with the inaugural flight scheduled to depart from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on the morning of October 27.
The new route is expected to enhance connectivity across Africa and beyond while facilitating business and tourism.
Nacala becomes Ethiopian Airlines’ third destination in Mozambique, following Maputo and Beira, further expanding the airline’s presence in the southern African country.
The launch ceremony was attended by invited guests, including Ambassador Zerihun Abebe, Director General of African Affairs at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mozambique’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Nuno Tomás.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Zerihun underscored the longstanding ties between Ethiopia and Mozambique, rooted in the shared ideals of Pan-Africanism.
He said Ethiopian Airlines’ entry into Nacala would elevate bilateral relations and create further opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
Recalling discussions between the leaders of Ethiopia and Mozambique on the sidelines of the Tana High-Level Forum, Ambassador Zerihun noted that the talks had laid the groundwork for expanding cooperation across various sectors.
For his part, Ambassador Nuno Tomás said the new flight service would play a significant role in promoting tourism, trade, and investment, while creating opportunities to showcase the cultural heritage and resources of both countries to the world.
He added that the service would strengthen people-to-people ties by making travel between Ethiopia and Mozambique more accessible.
Reta Melaku, Chief Operating Officer of Ethiopian Airlines Group, said Nacala was the airline’s third destination in Mozambique, reflecting its continued commitment to connecting African countries.
He emphasized that the airline is working to strengthen continental connectivity and facilitate trade, investment, and tourism, noting that the new route forms part of its broader vision of bringing African nations closer together.
The new service reinforces Ethiopian Airlines’ role in advancing African connectivity and regional integration by linking markets, facilitating cross-border business, and bringing people and cultures closer together.
