PM Abiy Calls for African-Led Solutions to Strengthen Resilience, Shape Global Order

Addis Ababa, October 24, 2026 (ENA) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed  called on African countries to strengthen economic sovereignty, deepen cooperation, and develop homegrown solutions to build resilience against global shocks and help shape the changing world order.

The Premier made the remarks while addressing the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, held in Bahir Dar under the theme “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation.”

The forum has brought together African leaders and key stakeholders to deliberate on the continent’s peace, security, economic sovereignty, and evolving role in a changing global order.

“I was pleased to participate in the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, held under the theme ‘Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation,’ where I also delivered remarks,” PM Abiy said.

He noted that decisions made beyond Africa’s borders can directly affect the continent’s citizens, economic prospects, and security, underscoring the need to strengthen resilience and collective action.

“Africa must not simply adapt to a changing global order; we must help shape it,” the Premier stressed, calling for greater economic sovereignty, stronger regional cooperation, and solutions rooted in Africa’s own realities.

Addressing peace and stability in Ethiopia, PM Abiy emphasized the importance of protecting civilians, upholding the constitutional order, and maintaining avenues for dialogue.

“For Ethiopia, lasting peace is personal. It requires protecting civilians, upholding the constitutional order, and keeping the door open to dialogue. Through our commitment to the National Dialogue, we remain ready to welcome all who choose the path of peace,” he underscored.

The Premier reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the National Dialogue, emphasizing its readiness to welcome all who choose the path of peace.

PM Abiy also highlighted the philosophy of Medemer, which emphasizes synergy and collective strength, as a guiding principle for addressing shared challenges and building a more resilient, peaceful, and prosperous Africa.

He underscored that by combining its capacities and developing solutions suited to its own realities, Africa can strengthen its role in shaping the global order and securing a better future for generations to come.
