Ethiopian Water and Energy Week Focuses on Linking Science, Policy and Implementation
Addis Ababa, October 23, 2026 (ENA) —The 3rd Ethiopian Water and Energy Week will focus on strengthening the links between scientific research, policymaking and practical implementation to advance water and energy security, according to the Ministry of Water and Energy.
Scheduled for October 26 to 30, 2026, at the Addis Ababa Science Museum, the five-day event will be held under the theme “Advancing Science-Based Policy and Partnerships for a Water and Energy Secure Future.”
The event will emphasize translating research into practical action, promoting integrated water, energy, food and ecosystem planning, strengthening climate resilience and transboundary cooperation, and attracting new investment.
Briefing the media on Friday, Michael Mehari, Senior Adviser to the Minister of Water and Energy, outlined a comprehensive program featuring high level panel discussions, dedicated Water and Energy Days, a multi stakeholder forum and experience sharing sessions with former ministers.
The event is expected to bring together policymakers, researchers, development partners and private sector leaders to discuss policy priorities, technological innovations and sustainable resource management strategies.
Its primary objective is to establish a national and international platform for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, investment mobilization and partnership building to accelerate sustainable, inclusive and climate resilient development.
The forum will explore ways to strengthen energy security and accelerate the energy transition through expanded renewable energy development, improved energy access, greater energy efficiency, clean cooking initiatives and the adoption of modern energy technologies.
Mobilizing investment and financing for water and energy infrastructure, essential services, research and technological innovation will also be a central focus.
The Ministry aims to promote research, innovation and digital transformation by strengthening collaboration among universities, research institutions, technology providers and policymakers.
Climate resilience and environmental sustainability will feature prominently in the discussions, with particular attention to drought, flooding, water variability, ecosystem degradation and other climate related risks.
The event seeks to promote coordinated responses to Ethiopia’s water and energy challenges through policy dialogue and partnership building while creating opportunities for sustainable resource management and long-term development.
