Ethiopia, UAE Explore Deeper Financial and Banking Cooperation

Addis Ababa, October 13, 2026 (ENA) —Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have explored opportunities to deepen financial and banking cooperation, with a focus on strengthening institutional ties and facilitating the exchange of expertise.  

Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), Eyob Tekalign, held talks with H.E. Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE and the UAE’s Governor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

The discussions focused on identifying opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two central banks, particularly in financial and banking services and the exchange of institutional expertise.

It its press release sent to ENA, CBE said The meeting builds on the existing partnership between the two sides, reinforcing Ethiopia–UAE relations and opening further opportunities for collaboration in the financial sector.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to strengthen institutional partnerships and explore avenues for greater cooperation in support of their respective financial sectors.
