Ethiopian Airlines Resumes Flights to Mekelle

Addis Ababa, October 10, 2026 (ENA)—Ethiopian Airlines has resumed regular flights between Addis Ababa and Mekelle as of October 11, restoring a vital air link to the capital of the Tigray region and opening new opportunities for travel, trade and family reunions.

The resumption has been welcomed by Mekelle residents, who expressed happiness and optimism, describing the return of flights as an important step toward reconnecting the city with the rest of the country.

The restored service is expected to ease travel, reunite families, facilitate business activities and strengthen social and economic ties between Mekelle and the national capital.

The resumption also marks a significant step toward improving regional connectivity, making travel more accessible for residents, businesspeople and other passengers while supporting the movement of people and goods.

Meanwhile, flights to Axum and Shire are also expected to resume soon, a development that would further expand air connectivity across Tigray and facilitate the region’s broader social and economic recovery.
