Temesgen Tiruneh Nominated as Deputy Prime Minister
Addis Ababa, October 8, 2026 (ENA)—Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has nominated Temesgen Tiruneh to serve as Deputy Prime Minister as Ethiopia moves to formally establish its new Medemer Government.
The nomination was presented to the House of Peoples’ Representatives as the 1st regular session of the 7th House, during the first year of its tenure, continues in Addis Ababa.
Prime Minister Abiy is presenting members of his cabinet to the House as part of the constitutional process to establish the new federal government following the Seventh General Election.
The formation of the Medemer Government marks the beginning of a new five-year political and institutional chapter for Ethiopia, following the opening of the newly elected parliament and the appointment of Abiy Ahmed for a second term as Prime Minister.
Temesgen has served as Deputy Prime Minister and has played a central role in coordinating government affairs and advancing national development priorities. His nomination comes as the new administration begins taking shape under the Medemer political framework.
The parliamentary proceedings are expected to advance the formal establishment of the federal executive, setting the institutional foundation for the government's next five-year term.
