Speaker Calls for Effective Implementation of Ethiopia's National Dialogue Recommendations
Addis Ababa, October 3, 2026 (ENA)—Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives Tagesse Chafo has called for the effective implementation of the recommendations of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC), saying the outcomes of the national dialogue must be treated with utmost seriousness.
Tagesse made the remarks today at a landmark ceremony where the ENDC formally handed over its consolidated agenda items and recommendations to the House of People’s Representatives, the House of Federation, 12 regional state administrations, and the Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa city administrations.
Commending the 11 commissioners for their dedication and perseverance, the Speaker said the national dialogue marks an important step toward addressing Ethiopia’s longstanding differences through peaceful, inclusive and constructive consultation.
He noted that while Ethiopia has a proud history of defending its sovereignty and independence, it has faced persistent challenges in resolving internal differences through dialogue and consensus.
Competing historical narratives, political disagreements and economic divisions have contributed to recurring tensions and conflicts, Tagesse said, adding that the government has undertaken broad reforms to address these longstanding challenges.
He described the establishment of the ENDC as a significant platform for bringing Ethiopians together to openly discuss their differences, build understanding and seek common ground.
The Speaker also commended Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for the political commitment demonstrated in initiating reforms aimed at responding to longstanding public demands.
Tagesse stressed that the completion of the national dialogue should not be seen as an end, but as the beginning of a sustained effort to translate its recommendations into concrete action.
He assured participants that the legislative and executive branches will put in place strong follow-up and monitoring mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of the recommendations.
Effective implementation, he said, will help strengthen peace, national stability and a shared foundation for Ethiopia’s future.
