Toronto Expo Opens New Path for Ethiopia–Canada Coffee Trade

Addis Ababa, September 28, 2026 (ENA) —An international coffee expo in Toronto has brought together Ethiopian coffee exporters and Canadian buyers in a bid to expand bilateral coffee trade and unlock new market opportunities.

Organized by the Embassy of Ethiopia in Canada, the expo brought together Ethiopian coffee exporters, Canadian coffee importers, business leaders, industry experts, diplomats and other key stakeholders to promote Ethiopia’s coffee sector and forge stronger business-to-business (B2B) partnerships.

 

Opening the event, Ethiopian Ambassador to Canada Tewodros Girma said that despite Ethiopia’s immense coffee potential, direct coffee trade with Canada remains limited compared with the size and capacity of the Canadian market.

He underscored the strong demand for coffee in Canada and the global reputation of Ethiopian coffee.

Ambassador Tewodros further stressed the need to establish stronger and more direct connections between Ethiopian exporters and Canadian buyers.

Representing the Coffee Association of Canada, Anna Mancini highlighted the significant potential of the Canadian coffee market and expressed the association’s readiness to work with Ethiopian coffee exporters to deepen collaboration and open new opportunities.

 

The expo provided a platform for direct trade networking, allowing Ethiopian exporters to engage with Canadian importers and industry stakeholders and explore opportunities to expand Ethiopia’s coffee presence in the Canadian market.

In its press release sent to ENA, Ethiopian Embassy in Canada noted that the initiative highlights growing efforts to translate Ethiopia’s globally recognized coffee heritage into stronger direct trade links and expanded access to international markets.
