Ethiopia, UAE Pledge to Deepen Bilateral Ties, Expand Joint Dev’t Cooperation

Addis Ababa, September 27, 2026 (ENA) —Ethiopian President Taye Atske-Selassie held talks with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) High-Level Week in New York.

The two sides exchanged views on strengthening the longstanding Ethiopia-UAE partnership, expanding joint development initiatives and enhancing cooperation on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

“On the sidelines of the 81st UNGA, I met with Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan, Minister of State of the UAE. We exchanged views on further deepening our bilateral ties, expanding joint development initiatives, strengthening cooperation in regional and multilateral issues of importance,” President Taye said in a post on X.

The meeting came as Ethiopia intensifies high-level diplomatic engagements during UNGA81, using the global gathering to advance bilateral partnerships and strengthen cooperation on shared regional and international priorities.

Ethiopia and the UAE have developed broad relations spanning development, investment and other areas of mutual interest, with both countries continuing to explore opportunities to expand their cooperation.
