Ethiopia Renews IFAD Partnership, Increases Contribution Tenfold

Addis Ababa, September 25, 2026 (ENA) —Ethiopia has reaffirmed its longstanding partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), increasing its contribution to the Fund’s 14th Replenishment (IFAD14) tenfold.

President Taye Atske-Selassie made the commitment during a high-level gathering attended by African Heads of State and Government, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and IFAD President Alvaro Lario.

The renewal commitment came as Ethiopia steps up efforts to transform rural livelihoods and strengthen agricultural development.

President Taye highlighted Ethiopia’s nearly five-decade partnership with IFAD, which has supported efforts to improve the livelihoods and resilience of millions of people across the country’s rural and pastoralist communities.

 

Through successive programmes, the partnership has reached nearly 10 million people, backed by 227 million USD in national contributions and approximately 1.2 billion USD in total co-financing.

Demonstrating Ethiopia’s renewed commitment to the partnership, the government has increased its contribution to IFAD14 from 100,000 USD to 1 million USD, a tenfold increase.

The move underscores Ethiopia’s continued focus on rural transformation, agricultural development and strengthening opportunities for rural and pastoralist communities, it was learned.
