PM Abiy Wishes Students Success as New Academic Year Begins

Addis Ababa, September 16, 2026 (ENA) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed extended his best wishes to students across Ethiopia as the 2019 academic year begins, urging them to pursue excellence and help shape the country’s future.

In a social media post, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said, “Our young generation is Ethiopia’s greatest wealth,” adding that “as the 2019 academic year begins, I encourage every student to learn with curiosity, pursue excellence, and develop the skills to shape our nation’s future.”

He said much of what is being built today is intended “for generations to come,” stressing that students, as “the beneficiaries and custodians of that future,” have a vital role in carrying Ethiopia’s “proud legacy of civilization forward.”

He also commended teachers, saying their dedication is “central to building a capable and confident generation.”

“Continue inspiring our students, nurturing their potential, and equipping them with the knowledge and values to thrive,” he said.

The Prime Minister also wished all stakeholders in the education sector “a successful and rewarding academic year.”
