Ethiopia, Kazakhstan Explore New Frontiers for Bilateral Cooperation
Addis Ababa, September 13, 2026 (ENA) —Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan have explored new avenues to deepen Ethiopia-Kazakhstan relations.
on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the two leaders held bilateral talks with a focus on digitalization, trade, investment and defense cooperation.
“On the second morning of the BRICS Summit, I held a bilateral meeting with President Kassym Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan,” Prime Minister Abiy said in a post on his social media pages.
Their discussions highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation in digitalization, business and investment, and defense, areas seen as important to strengthening the economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
The meeting came as Prime Minister Abiy and a high-level Ethiopian delegation participated in the BRICS Summit under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
On the margins of the summit, the Prime Minister also held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of BRICS member and partner countries, advancing discussions on areas of shared strategic interest.
The engagements covered a broad range of issues, including investment, regional affairs, technology transfer, capacity building and skills development, tourism, mineral resources, and cooperation toward preparations for COP32.
The growing diplomatic engagement reflects Ethiopia’s broader effort to strengthen ties with emerging economies, diversify its international partnerships and attract investment, technology and expertise to support its development priorities, it was learned.
