Prime Minister Abiy Confers with President Pezeshkian of Iran  

Addis Ababa, September 12, 2026 (ENA) —Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, as part of Ethiopia’s engagement with the BRICS Plus family.

The two leaders exchanged views on developments in the Red Sea and the broader regional security landscape, with particular emphasis on the importance of dialogue, cooperation and preserving regional stability.

The meeting reflects Ethiopia’s growing diplomatic engagement on issues affecting the strategic Red Sea region and its broader neighborhood, as Addis Ababa continues to advocate dialogue and peaceful approaches to regional challenges, it was pointed out.
