Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Calls for Unity and Renewal as Ethiopia Marks New Year 2019

(September 10, 2026, Addis Ababa) —Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has delivered a broad New Year message to the nation, urging citizens to embrace dialogue, build on major national achievements, and draft a new chapter of unity and development as the country enters the Ethiopian New Year 2019.

Framing time as a finite ledger granted to humanity, Prime Minister Abiy reflected on the country's historic milestones alongside its past challenges, calling on Ethiopians to focus on constructive endeavors in the period ahead.

The Prime Minister highlighted major national initiatives that have gained momentum over the past year, citing progress in agricultural self-sufficiency through summer wheat production, environmental conservation via the Green Legacy Initiative, and industrial expansion through the "Made in Ethiopia" campaign.

He also noted key infrastructure and economic projects, including corridor development, energy expansion, mineral exploration, and the completion of major transport and aviation frameworks.

Emphasizing the successful conclusion of the National Dialogue, Prime Minister Abiy described the process as a historic turning point for Ethiopian politics.
