Finance Minister Ahmed Holds Talks with IFC Managing Director on Expanding Private Investment in Ethiopia
September 2, 2026 – The Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, met with Makhtar Diop, the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation, to deepen collaboration and scale up private sector investment in Ethiopia.
During the meeting, the Minister briefed on the Government of Ethiopia’s implementation of the bold macroeconomic reforms and their contribution to improving the investment landscape and creating new opportunities for the private sector. The Minister emphasized IFC's continued support as a catalyst for private capital. IFC has a portfolio of USD 500 million across diversified sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, tourism, and telecommunications.
The Managing Director appreciated the bold reforms undertaken by the Government and reaffirmed IFC's strong commitment to supporting the country's development priorities.
Both sides discussed priority areas for enhanced collaboration, including continued support through PPP arrangements and project investments across transport, energy, and housing. Mr. Diop also affirmed IFC’s commitment to continue working closely with the Government to advance other priorities such as the transformative Bishoftu International Airport project, and programmatic support for IPPs and mobilizing private capital at scale.
