Ethiopia, France Hold Talks to Strengthen Strategic Health Partnership

Addis Ababa, August 27, 2026 (ENA) —Discussions aimed at further strengthening the strategic healthcare partnership between Ethiopia and France have been held.

State Minister of Health Frehiwot Abebe held bilateral talks with French Ambassador for Global Health and Chair of the Unitaid Executive Board, Anne-Claire Amprou.

State Minister Frehiwot Abebe noted that committed efforts are underway to boost local manufacturing capacity for essential pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and medical oxygen to ensure sustainable healthcare delivery and establish Ethiopia as a regional and continental hub, requesting expanded support from France in these areas.

According to a social media post by the Ministry of Health, Anne-Claire Amprou stated that her organization works in close collaboration with the Ministry to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis, adding that initiatives have commenced to scale up rapid diagnostic technologies and maternal healthcare interventions to prevent postpartum hemorrhage.

In a related meeting, Frehiwot held discussions with a high-level South Korean delegation led by Dr. Ji-ho Cha and invited South Korean investors to explore investment opportunities in Ethiopia’s health sector.

Ethiopia is undertaking broader health-sector reforms to strengthen domestic manufacturing of medicines and medical supplies, improve service delivery and develop the country into a regional health and medical tourism hub.
