Prime Minister Abiy Extends Best Wishes on Mawlid Celebration

Addis Ababa, August 24, 2026 (ENA) —Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has extended his congratulatory message to Muslims in Ethiopia and around the world on the occasion of Mawlid, marking the 1,501st anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

In a social media post, the Prime Minister urged Ethiopians to draw lessons of sacrifice, purpose, perseverance and unity from the life of Prophet Muhammad, describing his example as a “great lesson” for nation building.

Prime Minister Abiy described the Prophet’s life as “a positive history that shapes generations. He emphasized its enduring relevance to personal conduct and national development.

“The history of Prophet Muhammad is a positive history that shapes generations,” PM Abiy wrote.

“Honoring the purpose, paying all sacrifices for that purpose, sharing the purpose, and living in respect of what one has been called to, these are lessons that a thousand books cannot fully capture,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted the Prophet’s unwavering commitment to his divine mission, noting that he endured exile, hunger and conflict before ultimately triumphing “with the might of Allah.”

PM Abiy drew a parallel between the Prophet’s perseverance and Ethiopia’s contemporary national challenges, urging citizens to demonstrate similar resilience and commitment.

“If we believe we are called to a great national objective, the life of the Prophet will be a great lesson. Let us manifest this call through our speeches, our work, and our lifestyles,” he said.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of sharing a common purpose and building broader understanding, recalling how the Prophet initially conveyed his message to a select group before it spread widely.

“The seed he sowed blossomed, bore fruit, and flourished,” he stated. “Understanding and trusting in our purpose is not enough in and of itself; we must, like the Prophet, put in sustained effort so that others can also understand and believe.”

Concluding his message, the premier encouraged Ethiopians to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings and apply their lessons to the country’s development.

“As we commemorate his birth, I encourage everyone to learn from the Prophet’s life and apply those teachings to help build our country,” he noted.
