Rural Development Must Focus on Improving Quality of Life, Says Office of the Prime Minister

Addis Ababa, August 21, 2026 (ENA) — Rural development must be measured not only by physical infrastructure but by meaningful improvements in quality of life, the Office of the Prime Minister said.

The office highlighted that the rural corridors initiative is taking a practical, people-centered approach by "improving connectivity, creating better living conditions, and unlocking economic opportunities within rural communities."

According to the Office, the ultimate goal of the initiative is "to move beyond fragmented interventions and build rural areas that are productive, connected, resilient, and attractive places to live and work."
