Ethio-China Strategic Partnership Benchmark for China-Africa Cooperation: China's Ambassador

Addis Ababa, August 21, 2026 (ENA) — The all-weather strategic partnership between Ethiopia and China serves as a cornerstone to build a community with a shared future between China and Africa, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai said.

"All-weather strategic relationship means China and Ethiopia always stand side by side, supporting each other shoulder by shoulder," the Ambassador explained.

According to him, the relationship between the two countries has been elevated to an all-weather strategic partnership, demonstrating the potential of international solidarity and mutually beneficial cooperation which serves as a vital anchor for broader Africa-China relations.

In an exclusive interview with the Ethiopian News Agency, Ambassador Hai stated that the bilateral relation has transcended traditional diplomatic boundaries, evolving into a multifaceted alliance characterized by unwavering political trust and mutual solidarity.

Under the leadership of both nations, the partnership has yielded substantial progress across multiple fronts, he noted.

“In recent years, under the guidance of the leaders of two countries, China and Ethiopia support each other politically and economically. We are making closer coordination and cooperation to benefit both peoples.”

The Ambassador also underscored the global and regional significance of the alliance, pointing to both nations' roles as representative voices of the Global South and vital member states within the BRICS framework.

Through these platforms, Ethiopia and China maintain close coordination on international and multilateral affairs, jointly advocating for a fairer global order.

Furthermore, Ambassador Hai said that while the partnership is deeply anchored in long-standing historical friendship, it is entering an accelerated phase of development designed to meet the demands of a new era.
