Ethiopia Calls for Stronger BRICS Cooperation to Address Global Economic Challenge

Addis Ababa, August 13 2026 (ENA) —Ethiopia participated in the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting held on 12–13 July 2026 in Jaipur, India, highlighting the importance of strengthening financial resilience, development finance and cooperation among emerging and developing economies.


Ethiopia called for stronger BRICS cooperation to address global economic challenges, including rising debt, limited fiscal space, high borrowing costs, climate-related shocks and financial fragmentation, while advocating greater representation of emerging and developing economies in international financial institutions.

According to information obtained from the Embassy of Ethiopia in New Delhi, India,  the delegation also emphasized enhanced cooperation in trade, investment and financial systems, knowledge-sharing and access to innovative development financing through BRICS institutions and platforms.


On central bank cooperation, Ethiopia highlighted capacity building and deeper collaboration on financial infrastructure. As Ethiopia advances toward accession to the New Development Bank (NDB), it welcomed closer alignment between NDB financing and broader BRICS development initiatives.
