National Dialogue Fosters Environment to Hand Over Better Nation to Future Generations

Addis Ababa, August 7, 2026 (ENA) — Participants in the National Dialogue said that the ongoing process is creating a conducive environment for handing over a better nation to future generations.

Four thousand public representatives from home and abroad are engaged in in-depth, participatory consultations on eight major national agenda items to create national Consensus a International Convention Center in Addis Ababa. 

The main Ethiopian National Dialogue Conference has been underway at the Addis International Convention Center since July 15, 2026.

Delegates stated that the ongoing national dialogue in Ethiopia has established an enabling platform to instill in the next generation that national resilience rests on dialogue and the supremacy of ideas.

Participants taking part in the plenary assembly highlighted that the dialogue has created a unique opportunity for Ethiopians to deepen mutual understanding and social cohesion.

They noted that breakout working group sessions have enabled delegates to share insights on national priorities and reflect on solutions tailored to the country's peace and development.

Among the participants, Diriba Teshome affirmed that the national dialogue process has successfully guaranteed the inclusion of diverse social segments.

Diriba shared that, as a citizen, he is actively participating by listening to the perspectives presented while freely expressing his own views.

He added that the conference serves as a practical lesson on the vital importance of calm, measured deliberations on national agendas to build a stronger Ethiopia.

Engaging in dialogue through mutual listening represents a hallmark of modern political culture, Diriba emphasized.

Fellow delegate Ashenafi Debabe observed that a historic lack of dialogue on major national issues had previously left Ethiopia vulnerable to multifaceted challenges.

He noted that delegates are consulting to cultivate a culture of dialogue and lay down a solid foundation for a better nation for coming generations.

Another participant, Jibin Ahmed, stated that the inclusive nature of the conference enables delegates to draw valuable insights from one another and sharpen their perspectives on national priorities.

He added that delegates are exchanging ideas openly and uninhibitedly throughout the process.

Jibin reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his national responsibility to ensure that a peaceful, prosperous Ethiopia is handed over to the next generation through this process.

In his remarks, delegate Kelifa Suleiman noted that the dialogue demonstrates Ethiopia's capacity to resolve its differences at the negotiating table rather than through force.

He emphasized that the process will help prove to future generations that enduring nationhood is sustained through dialogue.
