Ethiopia FM, AUC Chairperson Discuss Horn Peace and COP32 Preparations
Addis Ababa, August 5, 2026 (ENA) —Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos hold talks with African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, in Addis Ababa this morning for high-level talks centered on regional peace and security and preparations for the 2027 UN Climate Change Conference (COP32).
The meeting, held at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on the evolving peace and security situation in the Horn of Africa and the importance of strengthened cooperation between the African Union and Ethiopia on key continental and global priorities.
A major focus of the discussions was Ethiopia’s preparations to host COP32 in 2027, a conference expected to draw world leaders, policymakers, climate experts, and international partners from across the globe.
Minister Gedion and Chairperson Youssouf emphasized the need for close coordination between the AU Commission and Ethiopia as the host nation to ensure the successful organization of the landmark climate summit.
The meeting underscored the growing partnership between Ethiopia and the African Union in advancing peace and security, while strengthening Africa’s collective climate agenda, it was learned.
It also reaffirmed Addis Ababa’s position as a leading hub for continental diplomacy and international engagement, particularly as Ethiopia intensifies preparations to host COP32 in 2027
