Green Legacy Momentous Initiative that Benefits Generations: Ethiopian Diasporas

Addis Ababa, August 3, 2026 (ENA) — Ethiopian diasporas delegated to the National Dialogue Conference described the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI) as a far-reaching environmental endeavor that they believe will benefit future generations while enhancing Ethiopia's contribution to global climate action.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, the delegate diasporas from Australia and the United Kingdom said the initiative demonstrates Ethiopia's commitment to translating environmental aspirations into practical action.

Pastor Pwoch Okwier, an Ethiopian diaspora from Australia, said the GLI has united Ethiopians around a common national cause and created a legacy that future generations will cherish.

According to him, the nationwide tree-planting initiative marks a historic achievement for Ethiopia and serves as an example that other African countries can learn from.

The initiative contributes to restoring forest resources and addressing the impacts of climate change through sustained reforestation efforts, he added.

Pastor Pwoch further expressed confidence that the experience Ethiopia has gained could inspire similar environmental initiatives across Africa, noting that the benefits of protecting the environment extend beyond national borders.

The other Ethiopian diaspora, Dawit Dentamo, from the United Kingdom, said the initiative has grown into a program with international significance, reflecting Ethiopia's contribution to the global response to climate change.
