Ethiopia Investing in New Generation of Innovators, Leaders to Drive Green Transformation, says Deputy PM

Addis Ababa, July 31, 2026 (ENA) — Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said Ethiopia is investing in a new generation of knowledgeable, creative, and visionary leaders capable of driving the country’s green transformation and long-term sustainable development.

Speaking at the launch of the 6th Annual Leadership Conference Diplomatic Simulation (LCC2026), held under the theme: “Green Legacy for Sustainable Development in Agriculture and Green Innovation,” the Deputy Prime Minister said Ethiopia’s future prosperity depends on the strength of its people and the responsible stewardship of its natural resources.

“We are building a generation equipped with knowledge, inspired by creativity, and guided by excellence in leadership to realize our national vision and create enduring opportunities for the future,” Temesgen said.

He stressed that the government remains committed to building a resilient and inclusive economy by transforming agriculture—the backbone of Ethiopia’s economy through innovation, sustainability, and enhanced productivity.

Strengthening food self-sufficiency is a strategic national priority that will reinforce economic resilience, safeguard national dignity, and expand opportunities for future generations, the Deputy PM pointed out.

Temesgen said the conference brings together young leaders from across Ethiopia to exchange ideas, forge meaningful partnerships, and develop bold solutions in food sovereignty, climate resilience, renewable energy, and green innovation.

 

He noted that the initiative is designed to prepare a new generation of innovators, leaders, and global ambassadors capable of shaping Ethiopia’s future while contributing to international efforts on sustainable development.

“Every investment we make in our youth is an investment in the Ethiopia of tomorrow—a nation that is more prosperous, more resilient, and more united,” he said.

Highlighting the broader significance of the Green Legacy Initiative, the Deputy Prime Minister said the program goes beyond environmental restoration and agricultural transformation.

“As we cultivate the Green Legacy, we are also nurturing the hopes, talents, and aspirations of a new generation,” he said, calling on young Ethiopians to accelerate the country’s journey toward a greener, more sustainable, and more prosperous future.

The annual leadership conference serves as a national platform for emerging leaders to engage in diplomacy, innovation, and sustainable development, reinforcing Ethiopia’s efforts to align youth empowerment with climate action, agricultural transformation, and long-term economic resilience.
