PM Abiy Holds Talks with Azerbaijan National Assembly Speaker on Strategic Cooperation

Addis Ababa, July 29, 2026 (ENA) —Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said he held productive discussions with Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding strategic cooperation between Ethiopia and Azerbaijan.

In a social media post, the Prime Minister said the talks focused on deepening cooperation between the two countries, building on their shared commitment to a stronger strategic partnership and mutual growth.

“We engaged in productive discussions on strengthening our bilateral relations, building on a shared commitment to a deeper strategic partnership and mutual growth,” PM Abiy said.

The discussions underscored the growing engagement between Ethiopia and Azerbaijan and their mutual interest in enhancing cooperation in areas of shared strategic and economic importance.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova also held talks with Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of People’s Representatives, Tagesse Chafo, in Addis Ababa.

The parliamentary discussions are expected to further strengthen legislative cooperation and contribute to the broader partnership between Ethiopia and Azerbaijan.
