Green Legacy Ethiopia’s Symbol of Dev't, Multinational Unity, Says Minister

Addis Ababa, July 25, 2026 (ENA) —The Green Legacy Initiative is a national symbol of development forged through multinational unity, Democracy System Building Center Minister Coordinator at the Office of the Prime Minister, Bikila Hurissa, said.

Executive leadership of the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) planted tree seedlings along the shores of Lake Hora Arsedi in Bishoftu, Oromia Region, under the national theme "Planting Hope" today.

The Minister, who also serves as Chairperson of the ENA Board of Directors, noted that the Green Legacy is a defining national campaign elevating Ethiopia's stature and diplomatic prestige on the international stage.

The planting of billions of seedlings following the national reform demonstrates Ethiopia's practical and successful transition toward a climate-resilient green economy.

He emphasized that beyond domestic environmental protection, the Green Legacy Initiative is conveying a powerful diplomatic message of regional collaboration across the Horn of Africa.

By supplying tree seedlings and sharing environmental conservation expertise with neighboring countries, Ethiopia is solidifying regional integration and reaping significant diplomatic dividends, Bikila added.

The Minister highlighted that the international community now views Ethiopia's tangible actions against climate change as a benchmark model for global environmental action.

This proactive stance has earned the nation's widespread international recognition and commendation, he noted.

Domestically, the campaign has emerged as a unifying development agenda, mobilizing citizens across all ages, genders, and religious backgrounds around a shared national objective.

The Green Legacy initiative has underscored the power of collective action on matters of national priority while deepening multinational unity, according to the Minister.

From an economic perspective, the initiative is boosting agricultural productivity, bolstering both urban and rural economies, and improving household livelihoods nationwide.

Ethiopian News Agency Chief Executive Officer, Seife Deribe, affirmed that ENA will continue to reinforce its institutional commitment to the Green Legacy Initiative.

The Chief Executive Officer said the Bishoftu event marks ENA’s second tree-planting drive in the current rainy season, with plans to roll out similar campaigns across various regional states.

He also said ENA will intensify its media coverage and awareness creation to mobilize active public participation in environmental preservation efforts.
