FM Gedion, EU Foreign Policy Chief Discuss Ethiopia-EU Partnership

Addis Ababa, July 15, 2026 (ENA) —Foreign Affairs Minister Gedion Timothewos held talks with the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas focusing on strengthening Ethiopia-EU relations.

During the meeting, FM Gedion reaffirmed Ethiopia's commitment to its longstanding partnership with the European Union, stressing the country's readiness to further deepen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

He also briefed about the Historic National Dialogue Conference, which officially opened in Addis Ababa today.


 

The FM said the national dialogue demonstrates Ethiopia's commitment to resolving longstanding national challenges through an inclusive, transparent, and nationally led process designed to build consensus, strengthen national unity, and promote lasting peace.

The two sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to further enhancing the Ethiopia-EU partnership across all areas of cooperation.

They also underscored the importance of the upcoming Third Ethiopia-European Union Structured Dialogue as a key platform for advancing strategic engagement between the two partners.


 

In addition, Gedion and Kallas exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
