Ethiopia, Russia Foreign Ministers Hold Talks 

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2026 — Foreign Affairs Minister Gedion Timothewos and Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks today.

Foreign Minister Lavrov is on an official visit to Ethiopia.

On the occasion, Gedion underscored that the longstanding friendship between Ethiopia and Russia spans generations and continues to serve as a strong foundation for the two countries' bilateral relations.

The ministers exchanged views on current regional and global issues of mutual interest, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Beyond the longstanding political and diplomatic ties between the two countries, the ministers also discussed ways of further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, and technology transfer.

The two sides further emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation within multilateral diplomatic platforms, including BRICS, and reaffirmed their commitment to closer coordination on issues of common interest.
