Addis Ababa, June 24, 2026 (ENA)__Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has expressed his appreciation to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his warm congratulatory message following the Prosperity Party’s victory in Ethiopia’s 7th General Election.
In a message shared on social media, Prime Minister Abiy described Anwar Ibrahim as a valued partner and reaffirmed the growing ties between Ethiopia and Malaysia, underscoring their shared commitment to Global South solidarity and mutual respect.
“(I) thank you, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, a valued partner with whom we share a common vision of Global South solidarity and mutual respect,” PM Abiy stated.
The Prime Minister recalled their exchange of high-level visits and the strong understanding built between the two leaders, noting that Ethiopia looks forward to advancing the bilateral initiatives launched during their engagements.
The message came in response to congratulations extended by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim following the National Election Board of Ethiopia’s announcement of the final results of the 7th General Election on Sanday, in which the Prosperity Party secured a commanding majority.
In his congratulatory message, Anwar said, “My warm congratulations to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the Prosperity Party on their victory in Ethiopia’s general election.”
Reflecting on his landmark visit to Addis Ababa last year, the first by a sitting Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar said he was deeply impressed by the warmth of the reception and the substance of his discussions with the Ethiopian leadership.
He noted that both leaders share similar perspectives on global affairs and emphasized that countries of the Global South stand to benefit significantly from cooperation based on equality and mutual respect.
Highlighting Ethiopia’s importance in Malaysia’s engagement with Africa, Anwar said the two countries had laid a strong foundation for cooperation during the visit and expressed his eagerness to advance the initiatives launched jointly.
Prime Minister Abiy, in turn, reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with Malaysia and deepening collaboration in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both nations.
