Indian PM Modi Congratulates Prime Minister Abiy on Election Victory, Reaffirms Strategic Partnership
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the ruling Prosperity Party on their victory in Ethiopia’s parliamentary elections, reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with Ethiopia.
In a message shared on X, Prime Minister Modi extended his “heartiest congratulations” to PM Abiy and the Prosperity Party, describing the election outcome as a “decisive victory.”
The Indian leader highlighted the deep historical and strategic ties between the two countries, emphasizing that India highly values its longstanding relationship with Ethiopia.
“India greatly cherishes its historic, multifaceted and deep-rooted ties with Ethiopia,” Modi stated, recalling his previous visit to the country and expressing confidence in the continued growth of bilateral cooperation.
Modi further noted that he looks forward to working closely with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to advance the India–Ethiopia Strategic Partnership, deepen economic and diplomatic engagement, and strengthen the bonds of friendship between the peoples of the two nations.
The congratulatory message reflects the importance both countries attach to their relationship, which has expanded steadily across trade, investment, development cooperation, education, capacity building, and multilateral diplomacy, it was learned.
As two of the largest and fastest-growing economies in their respective regions, Ethiopia and India have continued to enhance collaboration in key sectors, with growing engagement in infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, and human resource development.
Many observers say Prime Minister Modi’s congratulatory message adds to a growing wave of international recognition of Ethiopia’s electoral process, underscoring increasing global confidence in the country’s democratic trajectory.
