EHRC Describes Ethiopia’s 7th General Election as Peaceful, Democratic
Addis Ababa, June 2, 2026 — The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) announced that the 7th General Election was conducted in a stable, peaceful, and democratic manner as well as in keeping with international standards.
Briefing journalists today, Chief EHRC Commissioner Berhanu Adelo said the commission had deployed observers and experts to closely monitor the electoral process.
Based on the observation and monitoring activities, he added that the peaceful and democratic conduct of the election, as well as its compliance with international standards, was confirmed.
He also noted that all the necessary materials for the election were made available appropriately and in a timely.
Regarding the long queues observed at polling stations on the voting day, the Chief Commissioner stated that the Commission had pointed out the problem to the National Election Board of Ethiopia, which took corrective measures.
The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission further announced that it will continue monitoring the post-election process and make public any findings it identifies during its ongoing observation activities.
