Addis Ababans Demonstrating They Are Main Source of Power to Form Gov't: Mayor Adanech

Addis Ababa, June 1, 2026 —Addis Ababans are demonstrating that they are the main source of power to form a government by overwhelmingly voting across all the polling stations in the city, Mayor Adanech Abiebie said today.

Ethiopia’s 7th General Election is underway with polling stations opening their doors at 6:00 A.M across the country.

Casting her vote this morning, Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech said the election process is being conducted in a democratic, free, and fair manner.

For the Mayor, the people are demonstrating in practice that they are the main source of power to form a government.

 

She stressed the need for the people to realize that wasting their voter cards is a waste of their rights, urging them to cast their votes.

Ethiopia's General Election is well underway under the observation of continental and domestic election observers.

The election is being conducted with participation from 42 competing political parties and dozens of independent candidates.
