NEBE Briefs Diplomats, International Envoys on 7th General Election Preparations
Addis Ababa, May 25, 2026 —The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) today briefed diplomats based in Addis Ababa and representatives of international organizations on preparations underway for the upcoming 7th General Election.
NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu presented the board’s operational readiness, highlighting progress in voter registration, security arrangements, inclusiveness measures, and technological deployments aimed at ensuring a transparent, peaceful, and credible electoral process.
More than 50 million voters have been registered, she said, noting that 52,029 polling stations have been established across the country.
She added that special polling stations have been arranged for internally displaced persons (IDPs), military personnel, and students.
According to the chairperson, election ballots have also been dispatched to polling stations nationwide.
Melatwork further noted that NEBE has been working closely with relevant institutions and stakeholders to safeguard the transparency, credibility, and independence of the election, while ensuring broad public participation, including that of women and youth.
For his part, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Berhanu Tsegaye said the 7th General Election represents an important continuation of Ethiopia’s democratic process and contributes to strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
During the discussion session, representatives of various countries and international organizations said the briefing provided them with a clearer understanding of the extensive preparations being undertaken to ensure a peaceful, inclusive, and fair election process.
