Ethiopia and U.S. Boost Economic Partnership, Eye New Investment Frontiers

Addis Ababa, April 19, 2026 (ENA) —Ethiopia and the United States have moved to deepen their economic relationship following high-level discussions held during the 2026 IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings 2026.

Led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide, the Ethiopian delegation met senior officials from the U.S. Department of the Treasury to explore ways of expanding trade, investment, and long-term economic cooperation between the two countries.

A key highlight of the talks was growing interest in major infrastructure opportunities, including the planned development of the Bishoftu International Airport, which was presented as a strategic project with significant potential for private sector participation and regional connectivity.

U.S. officials welcomed Ethiopia’s ongoing reform agenda and acknowledged progress in improving the investment climate.

They also reaffirmed Washington’s support for Ethiopia’s economic transformation through technical assistance, stronger private sector engagement, and continued collaboration with international financial institutions.

Both sides agreed to accelerate cooperation on shared economic priorities, signaling a stronger push toward deeper trade links and expanded investment flows in the years ahead.
