Ethiopia, U.S. Development Finance Corporation Explore Deeper Strategic Partnership

Addis Ababa | April 17, 2026 (ENA) — Ethiopia and United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) have explored strategic partnership.

Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, held high level talks with Ben Black, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, on the sidelines of the 2026 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, focusing on expanding bilateral economic cooperation.


The discussions centered on strengthening the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and the DFC, with particular attention to priority sectors such as transport and mining.

Both sides exchanged views on ways to deepen trade and investment ties, recognizing the critical role of development finance in driving sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Minister Ahmed highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic reforms and efforts to improve the investment climate, stressing the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for foreign direct investment.


The DFC also reaffirmed its interest in scaling up engagement in Ethiopia by supporting high impact projects, especially in infrastructure and other strategic sectors.

Both parties underscored the importance of sustained collaboration to unlock financing opportunities and deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen cooperation and maintain close engagement in advancing priority investment initiatives in Ethiopia.
