FM Gedion Receives Rosatom’s Deputy Director

Addis Ababa, April 1, 2026 (ENA) —Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, received today Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director General of Russia’s Rosatom State Corporation.

Foreign Minister Gedion underscored that the longstanding historical friendship between Ethiopia and the Russian Federation provides a solid foundation for working in partnership on long-term strategic projects.


He appreciated the progress made following the nuclear cooperation agreement signed between the two countries last September.

Nikolay Spassky briefed the Minister on the recent signing of the Strategic Roadmap for Nuclear Energy Development between Ethiopia and the Russian Federation.

Sandokan Debebe, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission, also noted that discussions with the Russian delegation primarily focused on concrete ways to implement the agreement signed in September on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission and Rosatom signed the Strategic Roadmap for Nuclear Energy Development on 31 March 2026. The document outlines a joint roadmap with an actionable plan indicating the future direction of cooperation between the two sides.
