Addis Ababa, February 26, 2026 (ENA) – President Taye Atske Sellassie bade farewell to the outgoing Portuguese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Luísa Fragoso, today.
On the occasion, the President commended the ambassador for strengthening bilateral relations in various sectors during her tenure.
He noted that Ambassador Fragoso has made significant contributions in enhancing tourism, culture and people-to-people ties between the two countries, urging for further strengthening of collaborations.
Reflecting on her four-year tenure, the outgoing ambassador on her part emphasized on the rich history of diplomatic relations that span over 500 years.
Her tenure has been a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties between Ethiopia and Portugal in economy, culture, tourism and people-to-people ties, the Ambassador added.
Ambassador Fragoso underscored the importance of institutional relations, pointing to the achievements such as the inauguration of a direct flight between the cities of Addis Ababa and Porto.
"This connectivity has allowed for extensive exchanges between our peoples," she noted, elaborating on the significance of bilateral ties in education and cultural interactions that promote people-to people ties between the two countries.
To further enhance bilateral cooperation, the Ambassador stressed the need for the establishment of consultation mechanisms that showcase the resources and opportunities available in both countries, expressing optimism for ongoing collaborations, particularly with the European Union's initiative to create a business forum under the Global Gateway framework.
"We hope that continued visits between our nations will allow us to realize the full potential of our relationship," Ambassador Fragoso stated, looking forward to the future of Portuguese-Ethiopian connections.
