Addis Ababa, February 22, 2026 (ENA) –The 65th Anniversary of Ethiopia’s Special Operations Command is being celebrated with great splendor at Hawassa International Stadium in Hawassa city, in the presence of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.
The landmark event has drawn senior government leaders, top military officials, and invited guests from across the country, underscoring the national significance of the occasion.
Among those attending are the Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, and Deputy Chief of General Staff, General Abebaw Tadesse.
High-ranking federal officials, regional leaders, senior commanders, and distinguished guests are also in attendance.

Adding cultural significance to the celebration, respected elders from the Sidama community are performing the traditional Qeetala ceremony — a powerful symbol of honor, unity, and blessing.
