NEBE Reveals Official Symbols for Political Parties Ahead of 7th General Election

Addis Ababa, February 21, 2026 (ENA) –The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has officially unveiled symbols for political parties participating in the country’s 7th national general election, scheduled for 1 June 2026.

The announcement was made during a high-level briefing that also marked the formal signing of the Code of Conduct for candidates.

NEBE’s leadership, party representatives, and members of civil society organizations attended the event, highlighting its significance in the national electoral calendar.

The Chairperson of the Board, Melatework Hailu, affirmed on the occasion that the institution is intensifying its multifaceted preparations to ensure the successful execution of the national polls.

Melatework noted that the majority of political parties have already completed the registration of their candidates, while rigorous logistical arrangements are currently underway to initiate the voter registration process across the nation.

In line with the Board’s commitment to capacity building, training programs for electoral officials and master trainers are actively progressing.

Furthermore, specialized instruction has been provided to 169 civil society organizations tasked with delivering comprehensive voter education to the public.

To ensure transparency, the Board recently facilitated a guided tour for various media outlets to inspect the status and readiness of essential electoral materials and equipment.

Melatework emphasized that the public disclosure of party symbols is a strategic measure designed to empower the electorate, ensuring voters can clearly identify and select their preferred representatives on election day.

To safeguard the integrity of the democratic process, a formal Code of Conduct has been established, with political parties expected to commit to this directive through a formal signing process.

This framework is intended to anchor the election in principles of peace, fairness, and professional ethics.

Concluding the briefing, Melatework underscored that the seventh general election must be conducted in a free, fair, and democratic manner, therefore, the Chairperson extended a call to all stakeholders to discharge their respective responsibilities with diligence to realize a peaceful and credible electoral outcome for the nation.
