The Stunning Addis Ababa: Political Capital of Africa, Gateway to the World

Addis Ababa, February 14, 2026 (ENA)—In a matter of hours, the 39th African Union Summit of the African Union will officially commence in Addis Ababa, a city that stands not only as Africa’s political capital, but as a commanding gateway linking the continent to the global community.

Heads of State and Government from across Africa are convening under the unifying and forward-looking theme: “Ensuring Sustainable Water Supply and Safe Sanitation Systems for the Success of Agenda 2063 Goals.”

This agenda underscores the continent’s unwavering commitment to securing the fundamental resources that sustain public health, drive economic productivity, and anchor long-term, inclusive development.

From the early hours of the morning, presidents, prime ministers, leaders of regional and international organizations, and distinguished guests have gathered at the Union’s headquarters — a vivid demonstration of the Summit’s strategic weight in shaping Africa’s collective future.

At the same time, Addis Ababa itself is commanding admiration. With its striking new skyline, modern infrastructure, and revitalized urban landscape, the city is welcoming guests from across the continent and around the world with renewed confidence and pride.

Many leaders and visitors alike have expressed admiration for its remarkable and unprecedented transformation — a visible symbol of Africa’s rising ambition and progress.

Over the next two days, leaders will forge a unified continental position on critical priorities, particularly infrastructure development and peacebuilding — twin pillars essential to Africa’s stability, integration, and shared prosperity.

Through rigorous deliberations and decisive resolutions, the Summit is expected to advance strategic continental initiatives, accelerate the implementation of Agenda 2063, and strengthen Africa’s united march toward sustainable transformation, resilience, and an increasingly influential role on the global stage.
