Prime Minister Abiy’s AAU Lecture Centers Intellectual Responsibility in National Prosperity

January 2, 2026 (ENA)—On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Addis Ababa University, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, an alumnus of the university, has delivered a guest lecture titled “The Role of Intellectuals in National Prosperity.”

The lecture is being presented in the presence of academic leaders and senior government officials.

It marks the conclusion of a series of lectures and programs that have been held over the past few weeks to commemorate the anniversary, according to Office of the Prime Minister.

Addis Ababa University (AAU) is commemorating its 75th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the history of Ethiopia’s premier higher education institution.

Established in 1950 as the University College of Addis Ababa, AAU has grown into the country’s oldest and largest university, playing a central role in educating generations of leaders, scholars, and professionals.

Over seven and a half decades, the university has contributed to national development through teaching, research, and public service, while serving as a hub for intellectual debate, social change, and academic excellence in Ethiopia and the wider region.
