IGAD Ambassadors Endorse 2026–2030 Strategy, Approve 2026 Budget in Djibouti

Addis Ababa, December 12, 2025 (ENA) — The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has taken a significant step toward shaping the region’s future after its Committee of Ambassadors convened in Djibouti City to officially validate the organization’s Strategy for 2026–2030.

The newly endorsed roadmap outlines IGAD’s priorities for the next four years, focusing on advancing peace and security, deepening regional integration, enhancing resilience, and strengthening cooperation among Member States.

During the session, the ambassadors also approved IGAD’s budget for 2026. Officials noted that the adoption of the budget ensures the organization is equipped to implement its strategic vision and deliver on its mandates more effectively.

In a social media post, IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu, commended Member States for their unwavering support.

 He emphasized that the validation of both the strategy and budget marks “an important milestone” that reflects the region’s shared ambition to build a more peaceful, integrated, and resilient Horn of Africa.

With the validation process now complete, IGAD is set to begin implementation next year, paving the way for coordinated regional initiatives under its renewed strategic framework.
