Prime Minister Abiy Strengthening Ties with Germany and France at G20 Summit
Addis Ababa, November 22, 2025 (ENA) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has held high-level discussions with key European leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, focusing on bolstering Ethiopia's diplomatic and economic partnerships.
Prime Minister Abiy met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany to discuss the future of cooperation between the two nations.
The talks focused on identifying common goals and expanding the scope of their partnership.
Sharing the details of the meeting on social media, Prime Minister Abiy stated "Good to meet with Chancellor Friedrich Merz today. We exchanged views on key areas of mutual interest and expressed our shared intention to explore ways to strengthen ties."
The diplomatic momentum continued as Prime Minister Abiy reconnected with President Emmanuel Macron of France.
The two leaders used the summit as an opportunity to review the standing partnership between Addis Ababa and Paris, reaffirming the robust nature of their cooperation.
Reflecting on his discussion with the French leader, Prime Minister Abiy noted "Ethiopia-France relations continue to strengthen through ongoing engagements. Accordingly, President Macron and I had the opportunity to meet on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit for a productive catch-up."
