Denmark Keen to Strengthen, Expand Collaboration with Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, November 20, 2025 (ENA) -- Denmark has keen interest to strengthen and expand its collaboration with Ethiopia in economic, social and political sectors, Denmark's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sune Krogstrup, told ENA.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, the Danish Ambassador said Ethiopia and Denmark are  enhancing their collaboration across various programs.

According to him, Ethiopia and Denmark have recently signed a five-year development cooperation program on critical sectors such as agriculture, water access, and energy.

The key initiative within this cooperation program is the Agricultural Commercialization through Climate-Smart and Inclusive Innovations (ACCII) that aims at scaling up productivity, resilience, and market integration across the agriculture sector.

In addition, the cooperation program will support the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission. Other sectors included in the program are access to water and energy.

Moreover, Ambassador Krogstrup commended Ethiopia for its proactive initiatives to stimulate growth and lead a green transition, setting a model for other nations in Africa.

Denmark is eager to partner with Ethiopia on the global stage, he added, citing the country’s potential as a "global green front runner" like Denmark.

With regard to Ethiopia's ambitious macroeconomic reform program, the Ambassador said that  Denmark works closely to support the effective implementation of the reform.

“We believe that we can work closely with Ethiopia because it's a very ambitious program; and we are seeing many initiatives launched by the government to stimulate growth and also boost the green transition of the country. This is something that serves as a role model for other countries on this continent.”

Ambassador Krogstrup further emphasized the importance of continuing to open the Ethiopian economy to facilitate foreign investment, stressing Ethiopia’s vast market potential, size of the economy, large population, and strategic location within the Horn of Africa.

“It’s very important that Ethiopia continues to make progress in terms of opening up the economy, making it easier for foreign investors to come in and invest. We know that the Ethiopian market has huge potential, the size of the economy, the huge population, the strategic location, and the Horn of Africa.”
