Addis Ababa joins BRICS Capitals Parliamentary Movement
Addis Ababa, October 27, 2025 (ENA) – Addis Ababa signed today the Joint Statement of BRICS Capitals Parliamentary Movement during the ceremony held at Moscow Parliamentary Centre.
The Addis Ababa City Council Speaker, Buzena Alkedir signed the joint statement on behalf of the city along with representatives from Minsk (Belarus), Brasilia (Brazil), Havana (Cuba), Tehran (Iran), Tshwane (South Africa), Kampala (Uganda), and Moscow.
The Parliamentary Movement of the BRICS Capitals was established to share experiences and decisions making process at the city levels to improve the lives of city dwellers in the member countries, according to a press release sent to ENA by Ethiopian Embassy in Moscow.
In her remarks delivered after signing the joint statement, Buzena Alkedir thanked the Moscow City Duma for taking the initiative to establish the Movement and ensured the Addis Ababa City Council’s commitment to discharge its responsibilities as member of the Movement.
The Deputy Chairpersons of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow Sergey Cheremin, as well as heads of diplomatic missions participated in the signing ceremony.
The Parliamentary Movement of the BRICS Capitals has been established as a new channel for direct interaction between major cities facing similar challenges and tasks.
According to its initiators, it is designed to complement traditional diplomacy, improve the effectiveness of international cooperation, and strengthen partnerships at the municipal level.
