Addis Ababa's Infrastructure Boom Boosts Mobility, Economy and Sustainability: AUSA

Addis Ababa, October 20, 2025 (ENA) - Rapid improvements in Addis Ababa's infrastructure and public services are transforming daily life, enhancing mobility, economic productivity, and environmental sustainability, benefiting beyond the capital to the broader continent, African Union Staff Association.

Melvin Thamba Joseph, Secretary General of the AUSA, who has lived for more than a decade in the city, strongly applauds the city’s recent developments.

Having lived in Addis Ababa for nearly a decade, Joseph has witnessed significant progress, including expanded transportation systems, improved housing, and upgraded public facilities, all reflecting the country’s push toward modernization.

He further emphasizes the regional benefit that the changes in infrastructure and services have made a noticeable difference.

"When Ethiopia progresses, its neighbors feel the impact through increased connectivity and shared growth,” he added.

“Walking after work allows me to stay active and productive; I often respond to email or brainstorm ideas while on the move. It's a great way to balance work and wellness,” he added.

Reflecting on the city's broader green legacy initiatives, Joseph also recalled participating in a tree-planting campaign around 2020, an effort specifically aimed at expanding green spaces across Addis Ababa.

“The city is visibly greener now. Seeing those trees mature is a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to create a more livable and sustainable environment,” he said.

Joseph’s insights highlight Ethiopia’s impressive strides in infrastructure and urban sustainability, efforts that not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also position Addis Ababa as a model for inclusive, future-focused development across Africa.

As the city continues to evolve, it demonstrates how strategic planning and community engagement can shape thriving, resilient urban spaces for generations to come.
