Ethiopia, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Collaboration, Partnership

Addis Ababa, October 18, 2025 (ENA)— Vice President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Ajay Bhushan Pandey, expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms and the Government’s strong commitment to infrastructure development.

Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide held a meeting with the Vice President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Ajay Bhushan Pandey, on the sidelines of the ongoing World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings.

During the discussion, Minister Ahmed underscored the importance of expanding concessional financing to better support developing countries in addressing their infrastructure development and climate action priorities, according to a press release sent to ENA.


Reflecting on his role as former Vice Chair of the AIIB Board of Governors, the Minister commended the Bank for its remarkable achievements over the past decade in mobilizing resources to finance critical infrastructure needs.

The Minister also provided an update on the new International Airport mega project, noting that preparatory discussions have already commenced.

He further highlighted the importance of AIIB’s support for other key priority projects in Ethiopia, especially in the energy sector.

He reaffirmed AIIB’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Ethiopia and supporting the country’s efforts toward sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Both sides pledged to strengthen the collaboration between AIIB and Ethiopia by swiftly mobilizing the Bank’s support to finance transformational infrastructure projects, particularly those aimed at enhancing transportation, energy, and connectivity, among other priority.
